Review: Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Galactic Holiday Cyclops Action Figure

Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Galactic Holiday Cyclops Action FigureI dig Cyclops even if red doesn't shoot all that well. We've had plenty of red clear Outer Space Men (Inferno, Astro-Nautilus, Mystron, Commander Comet) so why not do one more? The big beast looks great in red, in person at least. Red can be tricky to shoot right, but if you're not an expert in photography they're all a little tricky. I am not an expert.

He's really big, and has all of the perks and shortcomings of his clear brothers. As a heavier figure, the Glyos joints strain slightly under the weight and may sag if the figure is not balanced properly. The plastic doesn't warp, but the figure will slowly tip forward and, eventually, nosedive off a shelf if left alone and unbalanced for a few days. Aside from that, it's a really solid figure: it feels like you could kill a rat with this thing, and he's fairly well jointed as Glyos figures go. With roughly 14 joints of merit, the figure can assume a few poses beyond what you see in the pictures. Each joint only swivels, so there's no bending knees or elbows here and it tends to be a little more noticeable than on the smaller guys. The Horsemen opted out of including bent arms here as well, so instead you have the option of closed fists to hold his extra eyes (the ray guns) or open fists which resemble the original prototype's hands.

Pre-Order Outer Space Men 2013 Alpha Phase Figures Now

Good news! You can pre-order the 2013 Outer Space Men San Diego Comic-Con Exclusives from the Four Horsemen right now.  (Not so good news: each 3-pack is now $60, making the 6 figures $120 before shipping.)  These are not for at-show pick-up, I assume it'll be like other years where you just walk up and buy it.  At $12, shipping isn't actually all that shabby.  Click here to order.

Pictures are not posted at this time, but here's the breakdown:

Wave 6 with Deluxe Wave 2
Colossus Rex - Clear Green
Horroscope - Clear Purple
Ohpromatem - Clear Smoke Grey

Wave 1 with Deluxe Wave 3
Gamma X - Clear Colorless
Jack Asteroid - Clear Orange
Terra Firma - Clear Orange

I'll be picking mine up at the show, barring a sell-out.

For those keeping track, this makes the tally 14 SDCC exclusive Outer Space Men so far, for a grand total of $235.00.  ($16.79 per figure on average.)

Outer Space Men Trading Cards Update

Back in 2010, we reported that Outer Space Men Trading Cards were coming from Tom Lichtman, of SideKick Trading Card Publishing, also known as SideKick Labs.  The manufacturer had a 2011 target release date, and at New York Comic Con 2011 the company had other products available - specifically Sucklord's SuxPax -  but no Outer Space Men!  So did the deal fall through, or are we still waiting for something?

Earlier this week I fired off a message to the affable Gary Schaeffer, the man behind TheOuterSpaceMen.com and many of the business dealings with this brand.  It was shared with me that the cards were not produced in a timely manner and other circumstances resulted in the parties between Outer Space Men and SideKick Labs not going forward with the project as of February 2012 - so it's been dead for quite some time.

Mr. Schaeffer shared that The Outer Space Men LLC are indeed interested from hearing non-sports card entities interested in producing cards based on the property.

Schaeffer contined, "Chase cards, artist cards, Mel [Birnkrant]'s own cards and more are slated to be in the collection." The level of detail sounded impressive -  "[Tom Lichtman of SideKick] even has individually wrapped in cello for safety exact tasting gum sticks that will accompany the cards," Schaeffer said, highlighting that many of the cards would have been produced to have a retro, older feel using equipment to replicate the kind of cards used 40 years ago down to the chewable sugary gum sticks.

Alas, it was not to be - a few hundred sample cards were printed, and that's as far as production ultimately got.

Special thanks to Gary Schaeffer for his time and assistance on this!

New Painted 2013 Outer Space Men Prototype Shots

New! Shots of the 2013 Outer Space Men are up at FourHorsemen.biz, showing off how the figures will be grouped this time around.  If you're just looking to complete your set of the vintage characters, that ain't going to happen because each one is paired with two brand-new characters.  (I for one dig it.)

The post also teases that the Alpha Phase 2013 figures - one-color clear figures - will be announced soon with pre-orders and pricing, but that information is not yet available.

Were I a betting man, I'd say $50 per trio which brings your San Diego Comic-Con Outer Space Men tally to 14 figures at an estimate of $215.

Cosmic Creators 2013 Outer Space Men Delayed

I got a few emails and tweets asking what was going on with these, as it was previously hinted the Cosmic Creators Mel Birnkrant Edition Waves 3 and 4 of Outer Space Men would be shipped in the near future.  36 of the 200 sets remain up for grabs.

Today, a tweet from @Outer_Space_Men reads as follows:

"...the figures will be in NY July 18"

So let's all stop watching those mail boxes every day like I've been doing.  If there are any new updates, we'll share them as soon as we can!

SDCC: AFX Gets 8 Exclusive White Star Outer Space Men

The Four Horsemen and Shop AFX have new White Star Edition Outer Space Men coming for San Diego Comic-Con 2013! Eight figures are bagged and put into a box, with white painted figures featuring clear blue or painted blue accessories.

The set of 8 figures is currently online for at-show pick-up pre-orders only.   $115 gets you the set, or about $14.38 per figure.  Only 200 sets are being produced, so like other recent non-infinity edition sets it's a fairly low run.  (And yes I pre-ordered mine.)

Hopefully we'll get a peek at the 2013 Alpha Phase figures soon - last year's were revealed on May 15, 2012 so it's gotta be due soon!
